What does an AI scene partner do?

CueRoom’s AI scene partner speaks the other characters’ written lines so you can rehearse your own part. Choose a character, listen for the cue, and answer with your dialogue visible or hidden. CueRoom follows your script; it does not improvise new lines or evaluate your acting.

You can use a virtual scene partner to review audition sides, practice a difficult exchange, or run a scene between rehearsals. The words and roles come from the script you import and review.

Keep the cue and your response connected

Begin with your lines visible so you can hear the exchange. Once you know the wording, hide your lines and respond to the other character. Reveal the text or use a spoken prompt if you get stuck, then repeat the transition.

Supported browsers can listen for your cue and move the scene forward. Microphone permission is optional, and manual advance lets you choose the pause yourself. Try headphones when using voice control.

Choose Studio AI or device voices

Studio AI reader voices

Choose available Studio voices for the other characters in Reader settings. These voices use an online service and require a connection, an active Studio Voices subscription or invited beta voice allowance, and remaining characters. You can adjust Studio reading speed. New audio may take a moment to prepare; CueRoom prepares upcoming reader audio during rehearsal.

Device reader voices

Device voices use the speech options available in your browser or operating system. Available voices and playback can differ between devices. Choose this option if Studio voices are unavailable, and try a short exchange before beginning a longer session.

For either option, start at a comfortable pace. Check that you can hear each opening word clearly and that the transition leaves room for your response.

Leave room for another actor

A repeatable reader is useful for learning the words. A live partner will bring timing, choices, and discoveries you cannot plan in advance. Use solo practice to prepare, then listen afresh when you rehearse together.

Try a cue-and-response rehearsal

Try The Last Train free to choose Maya or Jules and hear the other character’s lines. Both parts are prerecorded, so repeating the scene uses no Studio credits. For one-speaker practice, the monologue library supplies a different exercise: recalling a speech and using the recording for prompts.

Here is a short example using the characters from our sample scene:

JULES · READER: The last train leaves in five minutes.
MAYA · YOUR PART: Then we have four minutes to decide.

  1. Prepare the scene. Import a short script and check each speaker’s dialogue against your source.
  2. Choose your role. Select Maya and assign a reader voice to Jules.
  3. Hear the cue. Run the exchange with your line visible. Listen to Jules before replying.
  4. Test recall. Hide Maya’s line and answer from the cue. Reveal the wording or use Prompt if needed.
  5. Repeat the transition. Use Again to return to the preceding cue. Try the reply with a different intention while keeping the writer’s words.

The free two-person demo opens the real rehearsal interface. Choose Maya or Jules, hide your lines and let CueRoom play the other role from saved Studio recordings. Advance manually or use timed hands-free practice. Voice Control is optional and depends on browser support and microphone permission.

Using a line reader for audition preparation

Choose a short section of your audition sides and practice the cue before each response. Start with the dialogue visible, then hide your lines for a recall check. If the reader’s timing does not fit your choice, pause or advance manually. CueRoom helps you rehearse; it does not record a self-tape or replace the reader required by a casting brief.

For the words themselves, use the line memorization exercises. For getting your sides into the app, see the PDF script reader guide.

Before you choose an AI reader

Will it wait while I say my line?

Microphone cue detection can advance after you finish a line in supported browsers. Test a short scene on your own device, including a pause in the middle of a sentence. You can use Next to advance manually and control the timing yourself.

Is CueRoom an iPhone or Android app?

CueRoom runs in a browser; there are no native App Store or Google Play versions. Microphone and voice support vary by browser and device. Try your usual headphones and browser before relying on them for a full rehearsal.

Are Studio AI voices free and unlimited?

Studio Voices is an optional $9.99/month add-on requiring CueRoom, with 30,000 newly generated speech characters per paid month. CueRoom saves generated audio: replaying a saved line does not use more characters. Changing the text, voice or speed may require new audio. There is no rollover and no automatic overage charge. Free beta invitations are separate, with any testing allowance explained in the invitation. The public audio demo can be explored without signing in.
