Start with a clear source
CueRoom supports text PDFs, scanned pages, and pasted dialogue. A PDF with selectable text is usually easier to extract than a scan. Images and scanned pages need text recognition, which can misread names, punctuation, or columns.
Choose a few pages for your first import. Only upload material you have permission to use. Keep your original copy available while you review the result.
Review before you rehearse
The import review screen puts the original beside the extracted dialogue. Check that each line belongs to the right speaker, remove page headers from dialogue, and correct missing words. Unusual formatting can require manual changes.
Stage directions give useful context but should not accidentally become a character’s speech. The reader skips bracketed and parenthetical acting notes; check how your script’s conventions were interpreted.
Paste dialogue when that is simpler
You can also paste a scene as text. A character name followed by a colon gives the importer a clear starting point:
JULES: The last train leaves in five minutes.
MAYA: Then we have four minutes to decide.
Review the assignments after pasting, just as you would for a PDF.
Choose your part and begin
Save the reviewed script, select your character, and choose voices for the other roles. Keep your lines visible for a first pass. Hide them when you want to test recall and use Prompt or Again for a difficult exchange.
What to expect from scanned scripts
Text recognition is an aid, not a guarantee of an accurate transcript. Faint printing, handwriting, rotated pages, and complex layouts can all need correction. If an import is unclear, use a better scan or paste the scene’s text.

Check these details in audition sides
- Repeated character names: check that different spellings or labels such as “MAYA (CONT’D)” belong to the same role.
- Page breaks: compare the last line on one page with the start of the next so a speech does not lose its ending.
- Two-column dialogue: check the intended reading order; automatic extraction can mix the columns.
- Notes and watermarks: remove material that was mistakenly assigned as spoken dialogue.
Try one exchange before importing a longer script. Once the text is correct, follow the solo rehearsal routine to practice from the other character’s cue.
Put your next scene into practice.
Hear a reader cue, hide your dialogue, and check your reply. Try the sample scene without signing in, then choose how to rehearse your own script.
